Be brilliant, play clever, and master craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
