Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically.
