Be cunning, play clever, and master craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French relocated south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
