Be smart, play brilliant, and master craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
