Be brilliant, play smart, and pickup craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French relocated down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the country. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he invented the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
