Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French relocated down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps.
