Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. A great many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
