Be cunning, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he created the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
